Immersing oneself in a deeply engaging historical fiction, whether it be romance, drama, suspense, or inspirational can instill a deep appreciation for all who’ve been a part of this world before us. Reading a well researched historical fiction can give us a real sense of what daily life for people was like a hundred years ago, two hundred years ago, and so on. The adventure you become a part of is greater than anything you could imagine!

The characters are often fictional but all the events they lived through, the strength and endurance they achieve, are all real. When living through the toughest of situations; battles, droughts, persecution, disease; all the while not having even the simplest of conveniences like running water, their will to survive and see the future is truly inspirational!

While in school we learn about the historical figures who have made monumental and memorable contributions.

What about the rest of the people who made up the towns and villages? We are, perhaps, given a glimpse of what life may have been like for them during these time periods.

But to gain an even deeper understanding I believe that reading historical fictions is one of the best and most entertaining ways of achieving this appreciation!

All of us have these types of incredible individuals in our family history!

I encourage all, young and old alike, to occasionally immerse yourself in a historical fiction and be deeply moved and inspired.

Authors who have put an incredible amount of research into making their books authentic are James A. Michener (Tales of the South Pacific, Hawaii, etc.), Francine Rivers in a series called (Mark of the Lion), and in a more recent historical drama, Khaled Hosseini (A Thousand Splendid Suns).

Inspired by above authors I wrote a novel titled “Shameful Innocence.” It is a historical drama which will allow you to see life as it really was in Russia before, during, and after World War I. Filled with adventure and drama you will be inspired by the strength and courage displayed by these everyday people as they work their way through unimaginable circumstances.
