it’s not contagious. you can’t prevent it.
Hi Alfredo! Nobody knows exactly what causes multiple sclerosis. It is not an infection, and there is absolutely no way to catch it. Neither is there any way to cure it at this point.
All researchers think at this point is that a person must be born with a predisposition to developing an immunological disorder, which is what MS is. Then that person must come into contact with two as yet unknown factors in the environment for the disease to begin. Because no one really knows what causes it, there is no way to prevent it.
When a person has MS, their immune system actually attacks the central nervous system. As you know, the nervous system is involved in almost every activity of the body. As a consequence, the potential symptoms can involve physical movement, the emotions, perception and cognition.
No one knows. There are some factors that scientists think are involved though.
1. Area. The further north you go from the equator
2. Gender. Females are more likely
3. Sun. Get enough sunlight!
4. Heredity. Parents pass on the gene for MS
The one that affects the most is heredity. My mom has it, I’m a girl, I live in up north in United States, but I’m usually in the sun. Even though I have more of a chance to get MS then an average person, the chances are still pretty low. My mom has had it for over six years. Basically MS is like telephone wires. The wire needs to be covered by rubber so the message will get through. In your brain, there are also telephone wires, called nerves. The myalin (rubber) protects the nerves (wire) message. MS breakes down the myalin over the years, so messages are limited occasionaly. You can feel drowseiness and limited mobility. There are several treatments from chemotherepy to pills to injections by needle. Sorry to say, but there isn’t a lot to do to prevent it.
Hope You Stay Healthy!
