I want to know what books I would need to read to give me the skills that a broker or fund manager would have. I am assuming I will need to read some economics books as well. I am planning on devoting all of 2009 to doing this.

Kevin R has good suggestions, also read Barrons every week, WSJ ever day, Forbes every issue. Get a book ro six about Warren Buffett (I liked the Warren Buffet Way). Go to exchange websites (NYSE, CME, CBOE, more) and read every bit of their free material.

To get skills of a broker or fund manager,, it is doubtful you can learn enough in a year, because you have to learn futures, options, and more.
