Automatics are more convenient but that has not much to do with the snow. If you know how to drive stick, then you good. STI or AWD Rav4 will be about the same in the snow. If you want a stick, then get a stick after you know how to drive it. It’s not for everybody. The STI sits closer to the ground so in a deep snow you might won’t be able to go anywhere. But just look around in a snowstorm, you will se just as much cars as SUV’s on the road. If you can, get a set of winter tires and you really good to go with any vehicle, even with 2WD. What about a new VW Golf? You can get it about 25K. Get winter tires. Or if you have the money, VW Golf R32? You get a lot more power and AWD.
