Contact a vocations director at your Diocese (google it), you can start any time really. Even if you are still young, you can still go to retreats and visit the seminary. Good luck!
EDIT: Chris is a vile man full of hatred, he spews numerous lies about the Church, don’t even consider his rant.
There are no “priests” like that in the New Testament.
Catholicism cannot get anyone into heaven, because catholicism teaches works for salvation, and that is a false gospel of works (Galatians 1:6-9) that is against JESUS’S free gift of salvation!
And catholicism will not give you a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with Jesus, which is what JESUS wants with you!
So, you need to get away from catholicism, and instead, to believe in JESUS for His free gift of eternal life in heaven! John 3:16!
Jesus is God, and Jesus loves you so very much!
And the Trinity is true! Jesus is the Messiah!
The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to hell, is by believing in JESUS for His free gift of eternal life in heaven, believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died on the cross for all our sins as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe in Jesus for His free gift of salvation, and you will be in heaven, no matter what! John 3:16, John 6:47!
Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in JESUS for His free gift of salvation! It is impossible to lose or “leave” salvation (John 6:39-40, John 10:28, 1 John 5:13).
Please pray now: “Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross to pay for my sins and that You rose from the dead, and I thank You for eternal life!” You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die!
Here’s a brief description from a Catholic perspective:
“Just because a person may desire to be a religious or a priest does not mean that they have a true vocation.
And so, religious and priestly vocations must be tested through a process of formation before final profession or before ordination to the priesthood. For religious congregations, such as the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius, the postulancy and novitiate introduces the young person to the religious life giving intellectual, spiritual, human and moral formation. Those who exhibit the qualities to be good religious then advance to take temporary vows and ultimately final profession.
The vocation to the holy priesthood is tested in a similar manner. A seminarian studies for at least six years before Ordination, receiving formation in philosophy, spirituality, liturgy, and theology. Meanwhile, the seminarian’s vocation is fostered by his spiritual director and confessor. And if it is God’s will, the seminarian advances through the minor orders to the diaconate and finally to priesthood.”
I should note that I’ve known people turned down for the priesthood because of a lack of human experience: I don’t think there is an actual minimum age, but you need to show you have developed and learnt enough.
Each diocese usually has a vocation director for the seminary. It would be good to talk to him.

hi leon — i would talk to your local priest about specifics but….. seminaries are all over and depending on your preferred MOS you would be directed to your course of studies. one of the main things if you are a high school grad you would have to take a year in the “real world” to ensure you are truly wanting to be a priest and not just doing what the family thinks or running away from reality.
Prayer and discernment is the first step. Good luck.
